Time-Senstive: Funding Opportunities for Community Food Programs

Hello everyone

With COVID-19 continuing to put an unprecedented strain on our food infrastructure, we wanted to draw your attention to 2 sources of funding that could help support the work of community food programs here in Newfoundland and Labrador (and elsewhere - they are both national organizations).  Up to $20,000 in support is available from Community Food Centres Canada, and up to $20,000 from FoodRescue. Note that the deadline for the Community Food Centres Canada applications is this Friday at midnight. See below for details.

Note that these funds are distinct from the Community Food Program Support Fund we're administering here in NL - with demand so heavy on that fund, we very much encourage local organizations to seek out support through these other channels as well.

Funding Source 1: Community Food Centres of Canada Good Food Access Fund

Applications for a second round of the Good Food Access Fund are now open.

The Good Food Access Fund is helping to provide emergency relief during this time of national crisis to our most vulnerable neighbours, including children, single parents, Indigenous people, seniors, and those on disability supports.

The funding is not intended to start new/pilot programs or to support core/suspended programs with longer-term objectives. It has been established to flow funding through community-level organizations as part of a national-level response to improve shorter-term food access for people and households severely impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

This current round is also open to applicants outside of the Good Food Organization network.

Please feel free to pass along details to partners in need within your community.

Applications are due by Friday, April 24, 11:59 P.M. PST

Please note the following:

  • CFCC will provide awards up to a maximum of $20,000; final award amounts will be determined at the discretion of CFCC.

  • CFCC encourages any awarded funds to be used over a 1-3 month period.

  • CFCC does not guarantee that your application will be selected for an award.

  • Funds are only available to Canadian organizations and applicants must be a registered charity, qualified donee, or have a trustee to coordinate disbursement of funds.

Funding Source 2: FoodRescue.ca Emergency Fund

The FoodRescue.ca Emergency Fund is an emergency response initiative that can provide both financial and food support through Second Harvest’s FoodRescue.ca. This funding and food support is available to Canadian non-profits and charities supporting people with food. Applicants will be eligible for financial grants of up to $20,000 in support.   Their goal for this initiative is to provide hope, security, and inclusivity during a time when so many feel isolated and left behind.  Successful applicants will be required to enter into a Funding Agreement with Second Harvest.
