Food First NL’s Food on the Move is outgrowing its current storage and preparation area and is looking for a new home. This space is used for all of our food storage (mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and some shelf-stable items), packaging, and market preparation.
We’re aiming to move into this new space by June 2023. We’re open to sharing a space with another organization but our ideal would be a space where we can grow and adapt to our changing needs, within Metro St. John’s or surrounding (e.g. Donovan’s Industrial Park).
Location “Must Haves”
Access with plenty of space to maneuver a dolly (e.g. ramps, elevator access if there are stairs, wide doorways/hallways)
Food Storage space, including:
Refrigeration for up to 400 lbs of fresh produce — electrical hookups for our own supplied appliances (2 refrigerators or sliding door cooler) is sufficient
Dry storage for up to 100 lbs of shelf-stable items
Additional shelf space to keep market tent/table supplies.
Handwashing sink
Garbage removal
Parking/loading access for a large vehicle
Commercial flooring
Work table/counter
Lockable space with access during regular business hours
Location “Nice-to-Haves”
Loading bay: Dock or no stairs (garage-style access), to receive deliveries on pallets
Standalone cold room
Floor drain
WiFi
24/7 Access
On-site composting
