Western NL Food Hub Summer Intern

Food First NL is hiring for an 8-week full-time Canada Summer Jobs internship position. This role will be based in Corner Brook and supporting the activities of the Western NL Food Hub, a local food social enterprise. The Job
The Western NL Food Hub Summer Intern will have the following responsibilities:
Assist with the operations of the Western NL Food Hub, including receiving orders online, collecting food products from producers, packaging food products, transporting products to distribution points, and serving customers
Communicate with customers and the public about the Food Hub
Become familiar with the Food Hub's online sales platform, Local Food Marketplace, and assist customers and producers with using it
Participate in social enterprise promotional activities, including putting up posters, distributing print materials, contributing to social media and newsletter content, attending community events, and assisting with presentations.
Problem solve any issues as they arise in a timely and effective manner
Support food safety and occupational health and safety throughout operations
Participate in professional development
Participate as a member of the Food First NL team and contribute to evaluation, human resources, planning, and reporting activities of the organization as requested
Other duties as required
Canada Summer Jobs Requirements
To be eligible, youth must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**, and
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa, or work visa are ineligible.
The Ideal Candidate
This position requires some physical labour. The intern must be able to safely lift up to 65lbs and complete repetitive tasks like placing food into bags.
The intern must be living in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, for all of July and August, 2026.

You are confident with computers and you have experience with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Calendar, Drive)
You are able to work both in-person and online as required

Compensation and Other Details
Wage: $24.88/hour
Position Type: Full-time, temporary.
Hours: 35 hours/week. Mostly during business hours but occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Internship Period: July 6 – August 28, 2025 (8 weeks)
Leave time: 4% vacation pay provided and unpaid vacation days available as requested and approved by a supervisor. Sick and personal leave days available as needed.
Work Environment and Transportation: You must live in Corner Brook for the full contract period. Compensation will not be provided for relocation.
An NL drivers license, clean driving record, and access to a personal vehicle are all assets, but not required.
You will be working from a combination of locations, including the Food Hub (62 Broadway, Corner Brook), community sites in the area, and from home. Carpooling will be an option for many activities.
This position requires a reliable home internet connection. A monthly stipend is available to assist with home internet and phone costs.
