Uniterra Towards 2015 Symposium Series: Food & Water Security

On Wednesday, February 8th, WUSC-MUN will be hosting the 2012 edition of the “Uniterra Towards 2015: Symposium Series.” The theme for this year is "food and water security." There will be three speakers, all speaking on contemporary local and international issues. The speakers are:

-Dr. Ian D. Campbell, Director, Integrated Natural Resources, Agriculture and Agri-foods Canada. Tentative presentation title: "Towards Sustainable Agriculture in Canada and Around the World." This presentation will talk about what we are doing to enhance the sustainability of agriculture in Canada (water use efficiency, soil conservation, GHG management) and also discuss some of our international efforts such as the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases and some of our past development work in places like Ethiopia and China.

-Dr. Rebecca Schiff, Assistant Professor, Community Health and Humanities, Faculty of Medicine, Labrador Institute of MUN. Tentative presentation title: "Systems Thinking for Food and Water Security."

-Hannah de Young, who will speak about her involvement with the United Nations for work on fair trade coffee plantations in Ghana.

There will be a two presentations with Dr. Campbell (3:30-4:20) and Dr. Schiff (4:30-5:20) with a panel following the presentations consisting of all three speakers (5:30-6:20). Times are subject to change.
